A minute of silence for Africa’s legend: Nelson Mandela. His most inspiring quotes

The world will mourn Nelson Mandela for a long time, but he lives on in our hearts, especially us in Africa. He undoubtedly is the biggest influence in African history till date.

Here are a few of his nuggets of wisdom

On Education/Learning
Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.

No country can really develop unless its citizens are educated.

On Courage
I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it.

The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.

It always seems impossible until its done.

After climbing a great hill, one only finds that there are many more hills to climb.

Does anybody really think that they didn’t get what they had because they didn’t have the talent or the strength or the endurance or the commitment?

General
A good head and a good heart are always a formidable combination.

If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart.

There is no passion to be found playing small – in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.

Any man or institution that tries to rob me of my dignity will lose.

On Leadership
It is better to lead from behind and to put others in front, especially when you celebrate victory when nice things occur. You take the front line when there is danger. Then people will appreciate your leadership.

A good leader can engage in a debate frankly and thoroughly, knowing that at the end he and the other side must be closer, and thus emerge stronger. You don’t have that idea when you are arrogant, superficial, and uninformed.

I was not a messiah, but an ordinary man who had become a leader because of extraordinary circumstances.

On Freedom
For to be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.

There is no easy walk to freedom anywhere, and many of us will have to pass through the valley of the shadow of death again and again before we reach the mountaintop of our desires.

Let freedom reign. The sun never set on so glorious a human achievement.

To deny people their human rights is to challenge their very humanity.

On Time
We must use time wisely and forever realize that the time is always ripe to do right.

On apartheid/racism
I detest racialism, because I regard it as a barbaric thing, whether it comes from a black man or a white man.

If the United States of America or Britain is having elections, they don’t ask for observers from Africa or from Asia. But when we have elections, they want observers.

I dream of an Africa which is in peace with itself.

I’ve been away, yes, but i’m back

I know i’ve been away for too long; apologies for that. I’ve been pretty occupied by too many things in the last few weeks. Lots to study, and lots of work to do I must say. But notwithstanding, I owe us all something new, don’t I?

Well, over the last few weeks, I’ve stumbled upon a lot of information . Hmm, maybe that’s why Garret Camp, co-founder of StumbleUpon called their idea StumbleUpon, because the best kinds of information are usually “stumbled upon”.

Ok, you might be wondering what and what caught my attention so much so that I was away for so long. I am African, and I love my continent. I love my country Nigeria, and I’m proud to be black. I suggest you go get a copy of Quentin Tarantino’s movie – Django Unchained – if you’re Black BUT NOT proud. I was also proud of the classic “A billion reasons to believe in Africa” video on Youtube. Reinvigorated my belief in myself, in my country and in my continent. I LOVE YOU AFRICA.

Opinion: How did you spend your holiday?

The average Nigerian sees every public holiday as an opportunity to get out of workplace “stressful” conditions, and engage in other activities. To some, it’s perfect for family a get-together; to some, an all-night partying and spending spree. Some use the opportunity to drink to stupor, some for orgies that can send shivers down your spine. To some, it’s time to visit every friend in the neighbourhood, and for the introverts, a time to spend in the calm and comfort of solitude.
Since, to end the Islamic end of Ramadan fast, there was a 2-day holiday this week, I decided to follow the visiting group – I had not seen some friends for some time. On second thought, I decided instead to do a network-growing visit to some “helpers”, make a few calls and schedule at least 2 meetings.
I couldn’t leave my friends out anyway, So I had to strike a balance between both. And I needed a long rest as well, so the plan was: 1st day, sleep as long as your eyes can remain closed, 2nd day, visit one person, entertain a friend at home. Not a bad plan, is it?

Goodluck’s Intelligent Riddle

Read this, courtesy of Oyoh Emmanuel http://facebook.com/eoyoh

G.E. Jonathan met with the Queen of England. He asked her, “Your majesty, how do you run such an efficient government ? Are there any tips you can give to me? I want to help Nigeria”

“Well, said the Queen, “the most important thing is to surround yourself with intelligent people.” Jonathan frowned and then asked,”But how do i know the people around me are really intelligent?” The Queen took a sip of her tea. Oh, that’s easy; you just ask them to answer an intelligent riddle. The Queen pushed a button on her intercom. “Please… send David Cameron in here, would you?”
David Cameron walked into the room and said, “Yes , your majesty?” The Queen smiled and said, “Answer me this please. David, your mother and father have a child, it is not your brother and it is not your sister. Who is it?” Without pausing for a minute David Cameron answered, “That would be me.” Yes, very good, ” said the Queen. Jonathan went back home to ask N. Sambo, answer this for me, your mother and your father have a child, its not your brother and its not your sister, who is it?” “I’m not sure” said Sambo. “Let me get back to you on that one, but none could give him an answer.
Finally, one day, he ran into Dora Akunyili. Sambo asked, “Dora, can you answer this for me? Your mother and father have a child and its not your brother or sister, who is it?” Dora answered sharply, “That’s easy, its me!
Sambo smiled, and said “thanks!” Then he went back to speak with Jonathan. Sir, “I did some research and I have the answer to that riddle”, It’s Dora Akunyili!
Jonathan got up angrily, frowning he shouted at Sambo. “No wonder Nigeria isn’t moving forward, I don’t have intelligent people around me. You Dummy!” The answer is David Cameron!!!
